Ten-piece Houston soul band The Suffers stir up quite the musical storm.
The collective, which formed in 2011, brings elements of classic American soul and rock & roll together with a touch of jazz and pop; Kam Franklin’s vocals a commanding raspy force that anchors melodies over a tight rhythm section and explosive horns. The Suffers managed to pick up a slew of awards at the 2014 Houston Press Music Awards, including Best Drummer, Songwriter, Soul & R&B, Female Vocalist, and Musician of the Year, even before putting out their debut release, the “Make Some Room” EP, which is a groovin’ group of jams, both simmering smooth and packing a tight punch of funk.
