Timberos Del Norte 6.6.16

Timberos Del Norte are the real deal. For one thing, it’s mesmerizing to hear Monica Salas sing in front of this 11-piece timba band with her co-frontmen, Tito Cuba & CJ Edwards, whose voices and energy move your heart and feet. But when the horn section starts to burn and the rhythm section (complete with conga and timbale) creates a steady groove, it’s hard to not to let this music get you off the wall, up on your toes and onto the dance floor. Timberos Del Norte is led by the award winning salsa pianist, Paul Matthews, and have been together since 2011. Their music is timba, which is a type of Cuban music influenced by salsa, American R&B and Afro-Cubano folkloric rhythms. Apart from hearing them, it’s another thing to actually see this group come together as one.

You can catch Timberos Del Norte every Sunday at the One-to-One Bar from 8:30 p.m. – Midnight, or July 2nd at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard. For now, enjoy their Sutdio 1A performance below!
