Typhoon at KUTX 10.8.13

Typhoon’s latest album, White Lighter, was released this past August, and it is quite stellar. The album contains standout single “Young Fathers,” an upbeat, energetic tune that has definitely gotten some airplay around these parts. Kyle Morton leads this indie rock band from Oregon, and there are about a dozen members. Morton writes the songs, and many of his lyrics explore the thin line between life and death, partly inspired by his harrowing struggle with Lyme disease as a child. Despite the dark lyrics, Typhoon’s songs are unabashedly feel-good and may move you to dance. Their sound consists of a variety of instruments, including horns and strings, backed up by mesmerizing group vocals. Their live shows portray a tightly rehearsed, fun act, and they are not to be missed live.

Typhoon recently stopped by KUTX’s Studio 1A for a live performance and chat with Jay Trachtenberg, which you can take a listen to below. They also play at Lambert’s on October 12 and ACL Festival on October 13.
