In 2009 the Portland band Hockey was making audiences dance world wide with a “new wave/soul” sound that was often referred to as an amalgamation of LCD Soundsystem and The Strokes. But, after a four year hiatus, which included a 22-month stint in a New York studio, they’ve returned with a more evolved style.
Hockey has lost two of the group’s initial members; only Benjamin Wyeth and Jeremy Reynolds remain from the original core. Luckily for Wyeth and Reynolds, the loss of their prior band mates didn’t result in a loss of ability to make awesome three and a half minute pop songs. It’s evident on their latest record Wyeth Is. Wyeth Is was released digitally on May 7th, but physical copies can be purchased starting June 11th.
Hockey will be in town tonight for a show at The Parish with The Hush Sound and River City Extension. Show starts at 6:30 PM.
