Tonight, Austin chicha purveyors Money Chicha headline a Free Week survey of ATX Latin music at Stubb’s, sharing the bill with La Vida Buena, Son De Rey, and Kalua. Late last summer, Money Chicha finally released it’s long-brewing debut album, and the Grupo Fantasma/Brownout offshoot brought these simmering sounds to our Studio 1A. Chicha music is defined by psychedelic weirdness as much as it is by its infectious cumbia beat, and on “Quieren Effectos,” Money Chicha’s particular moonshine will leave you dizzy.
