After years of perfecting his craft, Nicolas Azlon Menchaca has tackled his biggest project yet. Austinite Nick Menchaca initially went by the name “Pojo the Idealist” from the early days of freestyle rapping during high school lunch breaks all the way through his stint in the now-defunct local jazz-rap group Modal. Distancing himself from the more casual rhymes of Pojo the Idealist, Menchaca embraced a new moniker, Nicolas Azlon (his own birth name abbreviated), for his debut 7-song solo EP, Evolutionaries, in early 2016, fully embracing his greater honesty and openness in his work,.
With the new name came a fuller understanding of modern day social issues and a greater enthusiasm to address them in his lyrics. Azlon’s latest release, the 10-track Infinite Potential, exhibits the pinnacle of his socially conscious lyrics, particularly in tandem with his recent advocacy for the Standing Rock protests. “See You Again”, one of three collaborative tracks with up and coming Austin acoustic/vocal duo Much 2 Much, highlights Azlon’s overarching positivity in light of daily struggles over a mellow instrumental.
