Sphynx: “Weekend”

Since their glam-driven birth in 2009, Austin-based pop trio Sphynx has been upping their pop superstar game one song at a time. Drawing equally from Phil Collins-esque retro pop and the modern production techniques of artists like James Murphy, Sphynx members Cory Dennis (vocals/synth), Aaron Miller (vocals/guitar) and Todd Harris (drums/percussion/bass) form like Voltron to create the ultimate in four-to-the-floor live dance music. Preceded by three studio releases, a live album and a handful of singles, Sphynx’s latest effort is their upcoming EP, Floppy Disco, due for release on February 10th.

Floppy Disco’s first single “Weekend”, reinforces the local lovable living ’80s flashback that is Sphynx, with 808 tom fills, energetic falsetto vocal hooks, and lots of effects. You can catch Sphynx at Stubb’s on Thursday, February 16th for their Floppy Disco EP release show.
