The Deer’s orchestral folk hit a high point on 2014’s On The Essence Of The Indomitable Spirit, but on its new single, the Austin band finds a new gear. “Static” shows off the Deer’s alchemy, honed in part thanks to the Texas State School of Music, where several of the members originally met. But the song isn’t a classroom exercise; it’s more of a study in interlocking parts, marrying delicacy with the most rousing music of the band’s young career.
