Alice Coltrane’s legacy reaches far beyond her talents as a pianist or one of the few respected jazz harpists. She fused jazz music and spirituality in ways nobody had ever done before, at least as explicitly or as successfully. On this edition of Under the Covers we celebrate her birthday with trumpeter Matthew Halsall’s interpretation of Coltrane’s classic “Journey in Satchinada” as well as her grand-nephew, Flying Lotus’, “Auntie’s Harp,” which samples “Galaxy in Turiya.”
