Anna B Savage – The Ghost

Maile Carballo / KUTX

Each week during Left of the Dial, KUTX Music Director, Rick McNulty shares the best song he heard this week.

London singer-songwriter Anna B Savage’s sophomore record in|FLUX is lush compared to her stark, unadorned, and incredibly intimate debut. Her rich vocals now entwined with subtle electronics and sophisticated production recalls previous singer-songwriter greats’ move toward a bigger sound; such as Elliott Smith’s Either/Or and Nick Drake’s Bryter Layter. Far from the folky sound of those late legends, Savage nonetheless captures their magical melancholia.

“If you’ve ever been haunted by a ghost or a former lover, you’ll find this song seriously unsettling. Strap yourself in for a bumpy and startling ride.”
