This is as direct as you can get. Kirk Smith’s latest single breaks out the break-up talk.
In contrast to, say, enigmatic references or flowery poetic liberties, Kirk Smith decided this track penned from the heart would reach your ear plain and simple. Well…simple language-wise, but not in the complexity of emotions boiling to the surface.
“Reckless”, produced by Lars Goransson and featuring guitarist Billy Harvey punching in those staccato shreds like pounding jolts, almost sounding like a march, Smith teeters on the precipice of a breakup blow-up. Of course our protagonist understands the need for space. Of course his partner’s happiness is important. It’s just that the heart feels extra when rung raw. “And it registers I know because I hear you but I’m slow / but I see and I feel that it’s time to let go…”
A handful of international tour dates are in the works for December, but you can see Kirk Smith at a free show at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday Sept. 18, at Meanwhile Brewing, 3901 Promontory Point Dr.
