It can be intimidating writing a Christmas song. There’s the canon to consider: hundreds of songs that have been in people’s lives for generations. Molly Burch, though, was up to the task. The former Austinite–she lives in L.A. now–wrote a whole bunch for The Molly Burch Christmas Album. The album draws on tradition while throwing a few curveballs, including a Wham cover featuring comedians (and Molly’s friends) John Early and Kate Berlant.
Earlier this year, Molly also released Daydreamer, a batch of glittery pop songs that continues her evolution as an artist. But this week on My KUTX, she’s here to celebrate Christmas. She plays an hour of favorite holiday classics alongside some of her originals, diving into what it’s like to write Christmas songs.
