Urban Heat

My KUTX // July 16, 2022

Urban Heat is the KUTX Artist of the Month for July 2022.

There’s a lot of friction in Urban Heat’s music. The synthesizers and drum machines make a cutting sound, but at the center is Jonathan Horstmann’s expressive voice. He adds warmth to the darker textures and helps unite the message on the Austin band’s debut EP, Wellness. These are healing songs, fighting off demons with fire.

Wellness will be released July 29 via Austin’s Spaceflight Records. The band celebrates with a show at Hotel Vegas on July 30 and a performance at weekend two of ACL Fest. This week on My KUTX, Horstmann and Urban Heat collaborator Kevin Naquin take control of the station as our guest DJs. Their mix features ’80s synth pop, goth rock, their favorite revolutionary artists, and more. Hear Urban Heat’s My KUTX on Saturday, July 16 or listen anytime at the top of the page.
