My KUTX // January 11th, 2025

This Austin four-piece may only be a year old, but based on the strength of their style, Variety sounds more like they’ve been at it a decade already. Even so, Variety’s debut album Subtropical from last November blew expectations out of the water and carried us into 2025 – where new material lies right around the corner.

Shortly after ringing in their one-year anniversary with KUTX during Free Week, Variety frontman Rhys Woodruff and drummer Nick Stout stopped by the KUTX Studios to share some of the band’s strongest influences, ranging from local friends and classic soul to post-punk and noise rock royalty.
