Calliope Musicals 12.8.21

Michael Minasi/KUTX

Austin’s Calliope Musicals often call their music psychedelic, but don’t expect fuzz drones and sitars. They’re psychedelic only to the extent that their wild technicolor pop feels mind-expanding. Over the years their songs have exploded with ideas, pushing the limits of what three minutes could constrain. Frontwoman Carrie Fussell says her favorite thing about the band is that “it never gets too hung up on staying within the boxes we have built in the past.”

In their recent visit to Studio 1A, it’s clear the band is determined to continue pushing those boundaries. No more than six months after the release of their 2021 EP Between Us, and Calliope Musicals is already teasing a couple of singles, including an exclusive premiere of the new song “Feelings” for our small studio audience. So, buckle your psychic seatbelt for a sneak peek at the band’s new music and a fresh take on an old favorite.
