When hearing of the band Dan Luke and the Raid for the first time, no one would assume that “Dan Luke” is actually Dan Shultz, the younger brother of Matt and Brad Shultz from Cage the Elephant. But when listening to the group’s debut, Out of the Blue, Dan Shultz instantly confirms that swagger runs in the family. Throughout the album, the quartet paint images of people passed out under neon signs, breaking hearts over rolled-up dollar bills, and faking smiles and feeling ashamed. Meanwhile, the sonics pulse with energy and enthusiasm, featuring distorted guitar chords, heavy synths and an occasional intricate melody, proving that this Kentucky-based group is next in line for rock stardom.
The group stopped by Studio 1A before their first show in Austin since their South by Southwest debut in March. Check out the live performance and conversation with KUTX host Laurie Gallardo below!
