In music, sometimes there’s this notion that if a song is catchy, it can’t be meaningful. The moment you start listening to singer-songwriter Dave Madden is the moment you put that notion to rest. This catchiness meets meaning element, combined with his flawless musical delivery (which partly comes from training at the prestigious Berklee College of Music) makes for a deadly combination. It’s easy to see why he won Best Austin Record of 2010 for his album Open-Eyed and Broken Wide. Madden deftly switches between guitar and piano just like he switches genres without missing a beat, all the while making some excellent music.
Dave Madden has a show on Saturday at Threadgill’s, and he stopped by Studio 1a to play live on KUTX. Don’t miss it!
