Huapango Sin Fronteras @ 05.26.2015

The second annual Huapango Sin Fronteras Festival, a gathering of both Mexican and U.S.-based huapango musicians, will be taking place in Austin on May 30th!

The festival features a line-up of huapango musicians from the huasteca and Sierra Gorda regions of Mexico, including artists such as Guillermo Velázquez & Los Leones de la Sierra de Xichú, Javier Rodríguez, Erupción Hidalguense, Dimención Hidalguense, Los Trineros, Las Palomitas Serranas, Carmelo Segura & Sus Huapangueros, and Don Pedro Sauceda.

Before the music begins, however, professor and festival co-organizer Alex E. Chávez will be giving a short lecture at an Informational Session co-presented by Texas Folklife on May 29th, providing information on the folk and dance tradition, its history, practices, and performances at the Mexican American Cultural Center.

The festival will be taking place on Saturday, May 30th, at Plaza de Toros R3 starting at 2 p.m. You can stream a live set by some of the Huapango Sin Fronteras musicians below.
