My KUTX: Art Levy

My KUTX // December 21, 2024

After fifteen years at KUT and KUTX, and twenty years in Austin, I’m hanging up my hat and saying “adios.” In January, I’m moving to Wellington, New Zealand for a graduate school program, and I’m taking my cowboy boots with me. I’ve produced over 500 episodes of My KUTX, and I’ve met a lot of my musical heroes: Britt Daniel and Jim Eno of Spoon, Terry Allen, John Doe and Exene Cervenka of X, Tim Kerr of Big Boys, Austin artist Federico, and–in a highlight of my life–Willie, on his bus, for a quick interview in 2017.

I started at KUT 90.5 in 2009 as a recent graduate of UT Austin, working for the music journalism show Texas Music Matters. Over the years, I hosted graveyard shifts, did my SXSW tours of duty, helped launch KUTX in 2013, celebrated its 10th birthday, and celebrated the lives of John Aielli, Paul Ray, and the Armadillo World Headquarters. I’ve had a lot of wonderful musical experiences, and they’ve made me the person I am today. I’m eternally grateful to have been a small part of the Austin music scene.

Before I go, I get to do the thing I’ve asked five hundred others to do: pick an hour of favorite songs. And now I know why it creates such anxiety for each guest DJ–it’s an impossible task! But here are some of my favorite Austin music memories. Thank you for listening.

Hear My KUTX on Saturday, December 21st at 6 p.m. or listen anytime right here.
