San Antonio Spurs’ Matt Bonner

My KUTX // March 16, 2024

You might know the red-headed Matt Bonner as “the Red Rocket.” Kobe Bryant dubbed him “the Red Mamba.” Or maybe you know him as “the Sandwich Hunter,” scouring the world for the best sandwich. But mostly, you know Bonner as a power forward for the San Antonio Spurs, winning NBA Championships in 2007 and 2014. And this week on My KUTX, you’ll get to know him as our guest DJ.

On Friday, March 15th and Sunday, March 17th, the Spurs play their “I-35 Series” at the Moody Center in Austin, and Bonner is on hand as one of the Spurs’ longtime TV analysts. He’s also a big-time music fan, and in this guest DJ set, Bonner spins nostalgic jams from Bruce Springsteen and Milli Vanilli, shouts out his friendship with the Walkmen and Austin’s Strand of Oaks, and remembers the time he got to crowdsurf–not easy to do when you’re a 6-10 NBA player. Hear Matt Bonner’s My KUTX on Saturday, March 16th at 6 p.m. or listen anytime right here.
