On his new album Ghost On The Car Radio, Austin’s Slaid Cleaves goes from Tom Petty-esque heartland rock to clear-eyed country-folk in the span of the opening two songs. That’s the intersection Cleaves has stood at for several decades now as a songwriter, but those two sounds also popped up for him at an early age. As our guest DJ, Cleaves walks through the music of his life one moment at a time, from the formative Beatles love and teenage punk phase to falling in with Austin’s folk scene. Listen to Cleaves’ My KUTX on Saturday, July 15 at 6 p.m. or anytime at the bottom of the page, and see him at the Stateside on Sunday, July 16.
